Privacy Policy

What we collect when you book, enquire or browse — and the care we take with it.

Effective 1 June 2024 Last reviewed March 2025

1. What we collect

We collect the information you give us directly when you make a booking, submit an enquiry, purchase a gift card or sign up to our journal digest. That typically includes:

  • Your name and contact details (phone, email)
  • Booking details — party size, date, dietary requirements and any notes you add
  • Payment details where a deposit or prepayment applies (processed by our payment provider; we do not store card numbers)
  • Correspondence you send us by email or through the contact form

When you browse this website we also collect standard technical information — pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type — through cookies and analytics tools. Our Cookie Policy explains that side in detail.

2. How we use it

We use personal information to do the things you'd reasonably expect a restaurant to do:

  • Confirm, manage and honour your bookings
  • Respond to enquiries and manage event planning
  • Process deposits, payments and gift card orders
  • Send booking confirmations and, where you've asked, the monthly digest
  • Meet legal and licensing obligations, including those that apply within The Star precinct

We do not sell personal information, rent it out, or share it for third-party marketing.

The three things to remember

We never sell or share your data for third-party marketing.

Card details are handled by PCI-compliant processors only.

You can see, correct or delete your data on request.

3. Who sees it

Your information is visible to the people and systems needed to run your booking: our reservations and floor team, our events planner, and the small set of service providers who operate our booking, payment and email systems. Where your booking involves The Star precinct (for example, lounge access or hosted play), the minimum necessary details are shared with The Star under its own privacy obligations.

4. How we protect it

Booking data lives in access-controlled systems, not on clipboards. Staff access is limited to what's needed for service, card payments are handled by PCI-compliant processors, and we retain booking records only as long as operational and legal requirements justify.

Privacy here is simple: your details serve your booking, nothing else.

5. Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

  • Show you the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct anything that's wrong
  • Delete information we're no longer required to keep
  • Stop marketing emails — every digest carries a one-click unsubscribe

Requests are handled by the team directly, usually within a few days. Australian Privacy Principles apply to everything above.

6. Contacting us

Privacy questions, requests and complaints go to [email protected] or through the contact page. If you're not satisfied with how we handle a concern, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
